Wig FAQ

Wig FAQ

Wig - Frequently Asked Questions
Q) How long does it take to have a customized wig made?
A) Custom wigs take 6-10 weeks. Timeframe varies based on complexity of style and availability of the hair.
Q) Why do the wig prices vary?
A) Due to changes in the cost of hair and services, wig prices vary according to the hair texture, color, length, and density.
Q) Do you have a color chart or can I submit a sample?
Colors may be chosen from our color ring or from color charts available on our website. For the most accurate color match, we recommend that you send in a color samples. (As all our hair is 100% human, please be aware that we cannot guarantee the match from synthetic wig color samples.)
Q) What are baby hairs?
A) Baby hair is Angora hair strategically placed at front edge. This hair helps to hide a thick edge and simulate wispy hair at hairline. (Angora hair is not recommended if you plan to wear bangs. Angora hair also blends in with human hair on wig.)
Q) Do you offer any additional services for the wigs?
A) We offer a variety of services including: repairs, addition of hair to the base/cap following hair loss from natural shedding. (Please refer our wig services page on the website for more information.) Prices are based on time and type of service.
Q) How long do they last?
A) It varies based on maintenance and hair texture, color, and base material. Due to the nature of the product, we cannot guarantee the longevity of any Top Piece, Hair Piece or Wig, with a French Part or Skin Top. These pieces are made to replicate hair growing from a human scalp. Each hair is individually ventilated and the hair does break off due to normal wear and tear from styling, shampoo, and heat. Once the hair is lost, it cannot grow back. Because of the material used the hair loss on the skin top or French part is more visible. Skin tops are repairable, we can add hair but it will not look exactly like the original piece.
Q) How can I make my wig last longer?
A) Proper wear and maintenance will help extend the longevity of your wig. Sleeping with the wig on and/or excessive wear may decrease the lifespan of your wig. Please refer to our care instructions included with your purchase.
Q) Is you hair human hair?

A) My Glamorous Hair only provides 100% human hair (with the exception of Angora hair). We only carry the highest quality hair available for wigs.
Q) How much do wigs cost?
A) Prices start at $500.00, with the average price being $1,200.00-$1800.00. However, depending on specification they may increase accordingly.
Q) Can the hair be dyed?
A) Yes, it is recommended you go to a professional colorist\cosmetologist that works with wigs/hairpieces. Always strand test hair first and follow manufacturer instructions before applying any chemical service to hair. (Please note that we cannot guarantee any products that are chemically altered, for more details please see our return policy on our website.)
Q) Can machine wefts be added to the wig?
A) Yes, most of the time wefts are sewn in to a wig to add more density. Often during a repair, machine wefts are added to replace volume and length (except on skin-top area). Adding machine wefts might make the base/cap thicker and also stretches base/cap material.
Q) How do I wash the wig?
A) We provide you with special instructions with your purchase.

Lace Choices

Lace Choices

Lace Color Choices - Guide to Choosing Your Lace Color:
How do I Choice the Lace Color?  You want to match the lace color with your scalp complexion not your skin tone.  This is because when you part the unit, you want it to appear as your natural scalp color.  So to check your scalp color - part your hair and look at the color of your scalp to determine your lace color.
Follow These Guidelines - Lace Choice Color:
Transparent:  For White, Off White or Cream scalp tones.  Ie. Kimora, Jessica Simpson, etc.

Light Beige or Beige:  For Light Beige or Beige scalp tones.  Ie: Kimora

Light Brown or Medium Brown:  For Light Brown or Medium Brown scalp tones. Ie. Beyonce, Ciara, Maya, Brandy, Oprah

Brown:
For very Dark Brown scalp tones. Ie. Naomi Campbell, Alek, Whoopi Goldberg

How to Measure

How to Measure Your Head

Before you start:  We recommend styling your hair like it will be under the wig.  Best results are to either braid straight back in flat cornrows, braid in a flat beehive, or wrap it flat back.  Get the hair as flat and as tight as possible before taking the measurements. This will eliminate bulges that distort head contours. IMPORTANT:  Make sure that your measurements are ACCURATE.  If you do not measure properly, your wig may not fit.  So take your measurements at least 2-3 times to be sure.  Use a soft measure tape to measure.  We take measurements in whole and half inches.  So please round your measurements up not down.  Example: 12 3/4 should be rounded up to 13 and 12 1/4 should be rounded up to 12 1/2.
Special Note: If you are bald or do not have a hair line - you do not need to add the inch - simply put the tape measure where you would like your hairline to begin with the wig.
The averages below are just to give you an example.  Not everyone will meet these measurements - some may be under or over and that is perfectly fine.
1. The Circumference of the Head:
Measure all around the head. Position tape measure so its edge follows the hair line around the head and nape of the neck. (Example Measurement: 22 inches).
2. From Forehead to Nape of Neck:

Measure from hairline at center of forehead straight back over crown to center of hairline at nape of neck.  Note: Place the tape measure at your hairline in the front of forehead while taking the measure to the hairline at the back of your Nape (neck).  Keeping in mind that your cap is glued to the outside perimeter of your natural hairline on your skin.   (Example Measurement: 14 inches).  Then ADD 1 inch to the measurement results.  This is VERY IMPORTANT.  If you do not add the inch, your wig will be too small and will not be able to be glued in front of your hairline.

3. Ear to Ear Across Front Hairline:
At front of ear, measure from hairline at base of sideburn, up across the hair line along forehead to same point in front of other ear. (Example Measurement: 12 inches).
4. From Ear to Ear Over Top of Head:
Measure from hairline directly above the ear across top of head to the hairline directly above the other ear. (Example Measurement: 13 inches).
5. Point to Point:

From temple to temple across the back of head. (Example Measurement: 14  inches).  Note: Place the tape measure at your temple to temple point on each side of your head as shown in the picture.  Keeping in mind that your cap is glued to the outside perimeter of your natural hairline in this area as well.  Then ADD 1 inch to the measurement results.  This is VERY IMPORTANT.  If you do not add the inch, your wig will be too small and will not be able to be glued in front of your hairline.

6. Nape of Neck:
Measure the width of hairline across the nape of the neck. (Example Measurement: 5 1/2 inches).

Hair Texture

Hair Texture

  • Straight - This is the hair texture in its natural state prior to any processing.  It is very straight and can be silky as well.  This texture can be flat ironed or hot curled.  This hair texture waves up when wet.

  • Yaki Perm Straight - This is an african american permed texture.  It is like an african american permed texture after your perm is about 2-3 weeks old.  This is the texture that Beyonce normally wears.  This texture can be flat ironed or hot curled.

  • Light Yaki -  This is another form of the african american permed texture.  It is a mix of the straight and yaki perm straight textures combined.  It is like an african american hair texture after you receive a fresh perm.  Therefore it is a little straighter then the yaki perm straight. This hair texture is similar to  Megan Good's hair texture.  This texture can be flat ironed or hot curled.

  • Kinky Straight - This is an unpermed african american hair texture.  It can be flat ironed or hot curled.

What is Quick Hair Weave

What is Quick Hair Weave

There are two types of quick hair weaves. Quick hair weaves that are tracks/wefts and quick hair weaves that are wigs. In order to have a quick hair weave style that is a track, glue is involved. You glue the tracks to your head one by one or on a cap and that makes a quick weave. In order to have a quick weave that is a wig you simply get a half wig that is styled and insert the combs into your hair, then you have an instant hair style.

Synthetic Hair

Synthetic hair

Synthetic hair is made of a wide array of different synthetic fibers. Synthetic hair, just as human hair, comes in weave (weft) and single strands for braids. Synthetic hair does not last as long as human hair because it gets quickly damaged from the sun.The quality of hair varies greatly, and if well maintained, synthetic hair can last up to a year. It will never look as human hair, as it is stiff and not bouncy at all. Synthetic hair is much less expensive than human hair. The costs can range from $10 to $20 per package, and around $40 for a full wig, depending on quality of hair, length, brand, etc.
Heating appliances such as curling irons and straightening combs generally should never be used on synthetic hair. There are newer versions of synthetic hair from some brands that claim to allow styling with lower temperatures of heating appliances. Generally people should steer clear of such claims because the golden rule with synthetic hair is that heat is not an option. Synthetic hair is better used for shorter wigs.
Typically when the synthetic hair is shaped it is best not to change it, it is "What you see is what you get".
